The 10th AU Gender Pre-Summit took place in Addis Ababa from 17-18 January 2018 with a theme “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A sustainable Path to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Africa,” which is aligned to the AU theme for 2018. The Pre-summit deliberated on a number of issues related to the theme, specifically on the impact of corruption on women and children; the AU Multi-stakeholder policy platforms, and shared an update on AUC’s plan and preparatory activities towards commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the AU-Gender Pre-Summit proposed to take place in May 2018.

The Pre-Summit was also an important avenue to share update on the new approaches towards the Africa Pre-CSW62 consultation and position.  UNFPA Liaison Office to the African Union (AU) and United Nations Economic Community for Africa (UNECA) spoke at the Pre-summit on behalf of the United Nations System.

In addition, UNFPA Liaison Office participated in the Gender is My Agenda (GIMAC) consultative meeting.
