From the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action (ICPD PoA) and its subsequent reviews, the issue of sexual and reproductive health has remained an important and central tenet in UNFPA’s mandate globally. In Africa, this has resulted in the provision of thoughtful leadership and advocacy that has resulted in many continental instruments such as the Maputo Plan of Action for the Operationalization of the Continental Policy Framework on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (MPoA 2016-2030); the African Health Strategy (2016-2030); the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development (AADPD) among others.

The Representation Office works closely with the AUC Department of Social Affairs on a myriad of issues that fall under Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) as part of its mandate to ensure the full implementation of the ICPD agenda in Africa.
