“Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) can, of course, never be divorced from the pursuit of gender equality and equity and from the full empowerment of women. SRHR is at the center of gender relations, the full realization of SRHR cannot be achieved in the absence of gender equality and equity” - Zane Dangor

Zane Dangor joined the UNFPA as the Representative of the Ethiopia Liaison Office (ELO) to the African Union (AU) and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) for a four-month appointment (June to September 2017) to help strengthen UNFPA’s engagement in the critical multilateral space that is Addis Ababa. Prior to this appointment Mr. Dangor was the Director-General of the South African Department of Social Development where he worked for over 10 years. As a senior government official, Mr. Dangor has been a very strong advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights for decades. He has over 30 years’ experience on social development issues.

Throughout his time at the UNFPA Ethiopia Liaison Office, Mr. Dangor focused on the core mandate of the UNFPA:  expanding the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives. The ELO benefited from his national, regional and multilateral experience on population, social development, sexual and reproductive health and rights. He also provided knowledge of existing policy and legal instruments on these issues and the challenges faced in their implementation. His knowledge helped strengthen ELO strategy for the next 18 months. In addition, Mr. Dangor met and engaged with many of the key players in Addis Ababa and at the continental level to help advance UNFPA mandate.

Mr. Dangor holds a Master Degree in Public and Development Management and an LLM in International Law from the University of Witwatersrand.
