United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)

United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)

Established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) in 1958 as one of the UN's five regional commissions, ECA's mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its 54 member states, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development.

The UNFPA Representation Office works with the ECA on a number of issues related to the implementation of the ICPD beyond 2014. Primarily, the Liaison Office works in partnership with the ECA to advance the implementation and review of the ICPD beyond 2014. This partnership also extends to support member states with technical assistance and support in work related to population and development. In addition, the liaison works with the ECA to develop evidence and knowledge products around key issues and processes within the mandates.
